T.J. Zark is a painter and writer based in Southwest Colorado, where
the open landscapes continue to shape both their visual and written
work. Raised between the modernism of Southern California and the
vast Nebraska Sandhills, they developed an enduring fascination with
the American West—its mythology, immense skies, and the often
solitary lives lived beneath them.
Their paintings distill place and memory into bold shapes, luminous
color, and expansive horizons, exploring the landscapes that remain
with us long after we've left them. Whether working in paint or
prose, Zark is drawn to the emotional weight of simple images and
the stories hidden in empty places.
They live and create in Cortez, Colorado, with two dogs—one that
wiggles, one that worms—and more friends than any one human
deserves.
